I normally hate it when people express deep emotions for the passing of people that they never met. I have never really understood it. But I cannot seem to put out of my mind the passing of Heath Ledger.
Personally, he is an actor that I used to fancy but lately not as much, though he was still a handsome man. I admired his skills at his chosen craft, especially in the roles he played in The Patriot and, of course, the amazing performance in Brokeback Mountain, but I never really thought as much about this before he died. I've also come to realise that I never noticed I hadn't seen him give an interview or seen much of him in the press. He obviously did interviews, but I've just never seen one. He kept himself to himself. That I admire most of all. Many celebrities like to increase their "celebrity share price" by appearing here there and everywhere. It's the ones who don't who are to be admired the most.
I've just spent the last hour or so looking at my favourite blogs (most of which have links in the side bar, the rest are still being checked out for longevity), and found about 15 tributes to Heath. Many people obviously felt that his work had touched them in some way, and in "our" community, he was obviously admired for his portrayal of the stress, heartache and emotional trauma that can be attributed to how we deal with, and others treat us, for being gay (or bi), shown so bravely and touchingly in the classic Brokeback Mountain.
The most honest and accurate tribute I saw was on Tom Bachus on the Vine. Simple and yet intensely expressive. Check it out.
