Torchwood - Season 2

It was with anticipation and a certain amount of trepidation that I watched the first episode of season 2 of Torchwood last night, but all in all it was a good episode.
Despite the ridiculousness of a fish-headed alien stopping at a zebra crossing to let an old lady cross the road, before going on to kill a father and hold his family hostage, the rest of the show was action packed and (over?) sexually charged.

There were several class touches to the dialogue, including when the Torchwood team (without Cap'n Jack) drove up to the fore mentioned old lady and asked if she had seen a blow fish driving a sports car, she pointed them in the right direction before commenting;
"Bloody Torchwood!"
When Jack received the holographic communication from Cap'n John, I loved the homage to Star Wars;

"Help me Obi-Wan, you're my only hope!"
And the other line from Cap'n John which made me laugh was when he was in the car with Gwen, he was commenting that Jack could have the right idea basing himself in Cardiff as there were quite a few fanciable people around.

"She's nice, he's stunning and that's gorgeous!", "That's a poodle!" replied Gwen!

I thought it was quite sweet seeing the exchanges between Cap'n Jack and Ianto Jones, when Jack was addressing the whole group in reply to a question about why he came back, he says, looking directly at Ianto;
"I came back for you!"
Then when he realises the whole team is looking at him, he adds;
"All of you!"
Jack also asked a vulnerable looking Ianto out on a date too, which made me smile.
[apologies for any misquoting in the dialogue, but I couldn't verify it by watching Torchwood again as BBC iPlayer was not working this evening for some reason, so please don't think bad of me]

I never thought much about Ianto in the first series, but now that I have watched some of the first series for a second time and seeing this episode I can see why some people find him attractive. He also looks slightly different (better?) in this episode but I can't put my finger on it. Had he bulked up a bit, if so it looks good. Keep up what ever you are doing Gareth (David-Lloyd) and lets see more!

Some issues that I had with the show, are ones that follow on from those in the first series. Notably the overly sexual nature of the characters. I can imagine that this show is a lot of gay men's dreams, as too many gay men think that everyone is just a little bit gay, hence their efforts to "pull" or "out" every single attractive straight man around. I think that this is a bit too much, but maybe they can introduce a 100% straight character as a token character for a change! It would certainly be an original role reversal for television! Obviously he would have to portray all the straight cliches like scratching himself in public, bad fashion sense, homophobic but not willing to admit it ("some of my best friends are gay!") etc etc, just to get payback for all the gay stereotypes we have had to endure over the years. Oh and no straight kissing either, as it may offend the gay audience!
Oh and we (I) could do with less Jack and more of the team, they obviously coped without him while he was gallivanting around with the Doctor so they can cope without him again! Sorry John, I'm not trying to put you out of a job, but have you heard of the term "over-exposure."

I am looking forward to Martha Jones coming into Torchwood, which, considering I wasn't at all sure about her when she first joined the Dr Who team is surprising. Freema Agyeman is going to be a welcome addition to the cast especially as she has now proved herself as an actress.
Oh, and Alan Dale also making an appearance should be interesting!
