My first day back to work today and I was bored again. I forgot that I had nearly finished the book that I was reading and hadn't taken another in to start. So, once I had finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix I had nothing else to do all day!
The Site Supervisor has announced today that he will be getting his won office soon, which means that we will have no music playing in the control room at all soon. Now, his choice in music isn't to everyone's taste (a mix of mild to heavy metal, Irish and English folk music and the national anthem!), but at least it is noise which helps to pass the time. Soon it will be even more deathly dull.
I had trouble today keeping my mouth shut as every minute I just wanted to moan about how hellish it was working there and being so bored. I managed to limit myself to dropping little hints every time the urge overtook me.
On returning home and checking my email I received a reply from the company I applied to just before Christmas. They wanted me to attend an interview on Wednesday morning, but I am working, so I asked for it to be rescheduled. They said today that they couldn't reschedule. I could blow out from work, or tell them I have a doctors appointment, but there would be no point as the only smart pair of shoes that I own at the moment have fallen to pieces. The heel of the right foot is hanging off at the back. They have been tatty for a while, but a lick of polish does wonders for them. Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy some new shoes before Wednesday or even afford to get the soles re-stuck, so I have had to fore-go the interview. I would have thought that they would have appreciated my integrity for not calling in sick for an interview! The good news is, I wasn't sure that I wanted the job anyway as it was the same hourly rate, but more hours. I have asked them to keep me in mind for other vacancies that may arise.
