I can't believe that it is 25 years ago that I sat waiting in front of the television waiting for the start of the (then) new channel, hoping for some variety in programs. I was watching when Countdown first hit our screens and to this day, when I am off work (which is all the time at the moment of course) I still make sure I have the television on Channel 4 for Carol and co.
Since then some of my favourite shows have been broadcast on Channel 4 including:
Our on Tuesday (my first experience of a gay issues show),
Queer As Folk (a stunning breakthrough in programming and boundry pushing),
Tales of the City (a great introduction to one of my favourite book series' of all time),
Golden Girls (Amazingly funny comedy, probably among the best produced by the US),
ER (Great drama, US style),
Sex & the City (Escapist comedy drama for woman and gay men mainly),
Brothers & Sisters (Excellent drama that I have been ranting about alot recently),
Big Brother (the 1st series only, it was new, since then it is old hat and boring, and nothing can compare to seeing Craig running through the ouse naked with his huge schlong swinging, covered in clay), along with many other programs which have previously been shown on other channels (such as Stargate: SG1, Enterprise and Andromeda).
Happy Birthday Channel 4, keep up the good, groundbreaking work.
