It is with regret that I have to announce that I have been unable to find an out-gay athlete at this year's Winter Olympics. Now, I know the Winter games are not known for the flashing-of-the-flesh moments, but it would still be great to know that there are out-gay athletes competing to provide an example for young gay potential athletes. The Summer games 2 years ago were fantastic in that there were 11 out-gay athletes competing and many even got medals too.
With Gareth Thomas and Donal Og Cusack last year, both major figures in their respective sports and countries, I expected there to be more sports figures coming out, or just being out this year. Let's hope that someone comes along to prove that the Winter Olympics isn't completely gay-free, especially with the inclusion of an Olympic Pride House, for gay athletes, their friends and families.

Glad to say that I was wrong on this one, there are at least 2 out gay athletes this year. Check out my later post for details.
