Just got back from watching the rugby at Comptons and it was a poor performance all around. I was disappointed from the moment I got into the pub as the upstairs bar had tables laid out for Sunday lunches, but was still advertising (in the window) that it was showing the match. I thought for a while that it would be on the small screen downstairs and so considered coming home and watching it here. It turned out that they did have the big screen on upstairs and so the few of us who did turn up to watch the match had to crowd around the outskirts of the floor while people had their meals, not ideal for either party really. It was really warm up there and the smell of food was not appetising at all!
England performed abysmally against Italy, especially with Jonny Wilkinson failing to kick up to his usual standard. We were, however, lucky to win the match though it was not a certainty at any point during the game.
I had 2 pints while I was watching the match and another afterwards in Rupert Street. All that time, I spoke to nobody except for a quick hello to someone I recognised, but don't really know. I began to get really depressed, what with everyone else out in pairs or groups. God, I really hate Valentine's Day. It is as bad as Christmas, New Year's Eve and Birthdays when it comes to being single, i.e. Fucking Depressing!
