Surprise Evening Out

I was back at work today for my first of four shifts and was unimpressed by the lack of information about the works that were to be carried out today, we normally get a full briefing of what is to be allowed and what not. As there was no instruction then I allowed everything. "F**k 'Em!" I thought.
Also one of my team was really getting on my nerves as he can speak fairly good English, despite coming from Nigeria, but he fails to speak in understandable concise terms. This means that instead of telling me that some contractors were trying to force one of the fire exit doors open, he kept talking for about 5 minutes with me still not understanding what he was going on about.
This is a guy that I have had to argue to keep employed on my site and my team. I'm beginning to wish that I hadn't bothered.

Anyway, the evening out part:
I got a phone call from Tim to ask if I wanted to go to the cinema tonight to see Star Trek. Initially my impulse was to decline immediately, but then I got thinking:
I want to change my life for the better. One of the reasons I want to change to a normal, 9-5ish job was so that I would not always have to wait for a day off to do something. So after doing the maths, I worked out that I could just about get home, washed, changed and in town in time for the film. So I accepted.
As it was I made really good time and was in Ku Bar, where I'd agreed to meet Tim about 15 minutes before he was. We got into our seats just as the last trailer was showing. The film itself, Star Trek, was amazing. When it had finished and the credits were rolling, I turned to Tim and all I could say was "WOW."
I don't want to go into details, because you should really see the film for yourself, but:
The acting was amazing. Each of the main characters played the established role they were assigned brilliantly, while bringing their own unique touches to the character.
The special effects were amazing and more believable than any other sci-fi franchise (sorry Tim), as established by the previous Star Trek films and television series'. Though the camera work did leave a little to be desired with it being very difficult to see what was happening in some scenes where the camera was moving so much.
Without wanting to reveal or spoil anything, the story itself is both traditional and new, will appeal to both established fans and new ones, and the action simply does not stop.
I must also add, for regular blog readers that Chris Pine is one sexy actor, and that is without one single gratuitous flesh shot of him. He is gorgeous and has a sex appeal that is far more than William Shatner could have ever hoped to bring to the role.
Eric Bana is amazingly sexy considering he is the bad guy, but then bald, unshaven and hunky does do it for me quite often.
And most surprisingly of all for me, was that I was so impressed with Chris Hemsworth's portrayal of James T Kirk's father at the beginning of the film. He was such a good likeness for Chris Pine that I would imagine that was a key factor in him being picked for the role, his first big role in the USA (having hailed from Australia's Home and Away). I must send him my apologies for ever doubting that he could pull it off. Well done Chris and Chris.
I wish I could give more of a review, but I am still processing the film myself, so, a final line to sum up the film:
GO SEE IT YOURSELF!

Just have to make one ammendment: there was actually one shirtless scene (how could I have forgotten?), but it wasn't a long scene!
