Recycling Old Ideas

I am still toying with the idea of producing a website for "everything gay." I think it is just because I am bored here at work, yet again, and need something to occupy my time. I know that I am again compiling information for my "famous gay people" database that I previously used to produce the birthday lists that I would blog last year. I think I will at least be doing that again, once the new laptop is purchased, and up and running.
I may just look into the viability of producing a wiki for LGBT people and issues. The format of the Star Trek wiki Memory Alpha, especially the front page attracts me.
It has:
  • Upcoming releases
  • Today in Trek history
  • Did you know?
  • Latest news
  • Where to watch
All the above along with the usual wiki format could be adapted for an LGBT wiki. The trouble would be where to draw the line on what to include:
I would want to include all know LGBT people in the media, all gay characters from screen, stage and page, and all gay events and law changes. But should it also include actors who have played LGBT characters? Or "celebrities" with gay relatives, or those who do work for LGBT charities or organisations?
Should I include those who have rumours about their sexuality or who are homophobic?
If it is to include everything linked to the "LGBT world" then the fullest extent of this would be to include virtually everything that is already on
Wikipedia!

Maybe I am just trying to focus on an impossible project, which I have a tendency to do, like when I attempted to create an A-Z of everything that had ever appeared in Marvel comics, all on my own! A project that I worked on in various forms for about 20 years and still was far from completing. I only just gave up on it this year when I finally accepted that I would never be able to do it alone and that the Marvel Database Project was doing a much better job than I could ever do alone. Pretty soon afterwards was when I decided to quit collecting comics altogether!

My idea for an LGBT wiki didn't work when I used the blogger format, (Hamster's Heath) and it also seemed to have been supplanted by the Pink Paper when they launched their own wiki for all things gay. Though I was never able to get an ungarbled page when I clicked on it initially and so gave up, and the site is now showing as "awaiting further development." Have they given up?

I think what I probably need is a good job which occupies my mind so that when I am not at work all I want to do is switch off from research, data gathering etc etc and just having a life (which I don't at the moment). No jobs are on the horizon at the moment though so I guess I will have to keep looking and in the mean time spend my free time on the research that keeps me from going (too far) insane!!
