Steve Irwin

It was at about 06:00 this morning that I heard the news that Steve Irwin was dead. I was at work and it was on Virgin Radio that I heard the news with a colleague of mine. At first we thought it was a joke, or wid-up. But we turned on BBC News and, sure enough, they repeated the same information. He was killed by a stingray piercing his chest.
We were in shock for a bit. Bear in mind that we were both part of a Dead Pool at work, betting on which celebrity would pop their clogs next! (Judge me on that later) But Steve-o was one we thought wouldn't go for a while. Sure, he was a looney, but he knew what he was doing (mostly)!
When we had got over the shock, well a bit, we thought what a bad way for him to go. Yes he was doing what he loved, filming a documentary about wildlife, but we always expected him to get eaten by a croc or poisoned by a snake, not a bloody stingray.
My thoughts go out to his family and workmates, who must be devastated. He was a great presenter, naturalist and out-and-out character. A one-off.

Steve Irwin you will be missed.
