Good News

I had a phone call bearing possible good news this morning. I say "possible" because it is news I have heard, from the same person, several times before so I am not going to hold my breath. But, fingers crossed, he seems finally to have seen sense (again, I have thought that before though!).
I should know over the next couple of weeks if the it is worth celebrating, and, if it is, I will report on it fully. For now, I am going to keep my "mouth" shut and hope for the best. I don't want to jinx things, and someone might be "listening" so I don't want to tip my hand!
Oooh! How very mysterious I sound.

Eyes? Who needs 'em?

I had an appointment at the opticians this morning, normally a waste of time as they always tell me the same thing:
"Wear your contact lenses less!"
And guess what, she said the same this time, only with a bit extra! She said I would have to stop wearing them altogether! When I told her that wasn't going to happen she suggested a different type of lense, which will cost me £10 a month more!!! How can a little piece of silicon cost that much more than another piece?
I didn't even bother asking about laser eye surgery as every optician has said the same thing, that it isn't worth it as I would still not have 100% eyesight and there are dangers with it!
I don't actually believe them, my sister has had it done and her eyes are perfectly fine. I just think that the optician community are worried about too many people having good eyesight and their business being affected! I'm such a cynic! But I can't afford to have the surgery anyway at the moment, so it's not worth going to have a consultation until I can!
Anyway, the optician gave me a paid of these "new" lenses to try for a week and I have to go back for another appointment then. So annoying. Do I really need my eyes? I guess so. Just imagine not being able to see sexy boys on a summers day! Or, more importantly, to read my comics! Okay, I'll try and be good and wear the lenses less AND give these new ones a go. I just hate wearing my glasses outside of the flat, I feel really self conscious in them and I am not the most confident of people as it is, I find then annoying too when they slip down your nose, or get wet in the rain, or steam up when you go from a cold environment to a warm one or you get reflections at the edges from behind you. I just hate wearing them.
And, I really don't like the idea of shelling out extra money when I am struggling as it is (little do the opticians know but my direct debit is going to bounce again this month as it is due out the day before pay day! Oops.)
By the way I am wearing my glasses now, and have been since I had to walk home with them on. See, I'm being good already! Just don't ask me to leave the flat!! : - (

The Sontaran Stratagem

********SPOILER WARNING********

I watched the latest episode of Dr Who, The Sontaran Stratagem, last night on BBC iPlayer and it was a great episode, almost returning to "traditional" Dr Who story lines of aliens invading, military incompetence and the Doctor triumphing with simple tools (like a squash ball!). And best of all, it is a two-parter. I really miss the good old days where you would just get to a good part of the story and then have to wait for the next episode!
I love it when great, iconic old villains return and the Sontarans are brilliant in their simplicity, a cloned race who live only to fight and who can't run from their enemies as their weak spot is on the back of their necks! Brilliant. (I wonder if sales in Mr Potato Head will increase because of their re-appearance?)
Martha was back proving herself a stronger character than ever and she even got on okay with Donna. And Bernard Cribbins' character of Wilfred Mott (Donna's grandfather) was featured more (is he dead, I surely hope not!).
And to top it all off we have lots of men (oh and women) in military uniforms, with UNIT and their aforementioned red berets [mentioned in Torchwood, Cap'n Jack wanted one for Ianto!], and a couple of them were even quite nice looking (Christian Cooke and Clive Standen especially).
All we need now is the return of the Brigadier!

Oh and I loved the fact that the Doctor referred to his past associations with UNIT being "sometime in the '70's, or was it the '80's" which fanboys will love as it refers to the inconsistencies in dating the previous UNIT stories (which I would know nothing about if not for Tim mentioning this in a conversation [or two] with me ages ago. Thanks Tim)

Poll Results

So, out of my Top Ten Men, you have decided who you like the most and the winner is:
Ben Cohen
A well deserved winner I would say, though I was disappointed with the small amount of votes. Come on people I want this to be an interactive forum, so please join in.

Happy

It is amazing what a good day (or night) at work and a few compliments can do for you! After my good night shift last night and praise from the building manager when he came in this morning, and a good sleep, I got up at about 14:00 and have been in a great mood ever since.
This was helped by the fact that I received a letter today, yes by snail mail, from my good friend in Australia, Dean Arcuri (I knew him before he was famous), inviting me to his 30th birthday bash on the 2nd May. Even though he knows I cannot make it he took the time to invite me showing that the thought was there. He also enclosed a couple of photos, one of us together (me looking pissed as usual) and the other of him in a Robin (Batman and...) costume! Funny. I miss him a lot and I wish I could go to his party, especially as it is fancy dress, but I can't so I will endeavour to have a drink for him on the day instead (luckily it is on my payday!).

I've also been listening to the music on my blog (hint hint) and have been singing along and dancing around like a true queen!
I was just listening to one of the most uplifting songs I know, Affirmation, by Savage Garden and although it is a really happy upbeat song, that makes me feel good, conversely it also brings a tear to my eyes. I believe in most of the statements in the song, or at least wish I did.

"Affirmation"
I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self-esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

Another song that makes me feel good, though not in the same league as Affirmation, is Keep on Moving by Five (5ive), though I probably like this song initially as I had a "thing" for band member Jason "J" Brown.

Todays LGBT birthdays:
Weaver W Adams - US chess player - Born 1901, Died 1963
John Paul Hudson - US journalist and activist - Born 1929, Died 2002
Ryan Skipper - US gay hate crime murder victim - Born 1981, Died 2007
It seems incredible to me that even in the 21st Century people still kill others for being gay! Even though it says more about the murderer than the victim, it is not acceptable. 17th May is IDAHo (International Day Against Homophobia) make yourself and everyone you know aware. Lets stamp out these intollerant, sociopaths once and for all.

Feeling Good

I thought that I should report to you all that I actually felt quite content at work last night, which was strange as, without going into detail for confidentiality reasons (I don't want to get sacked again!), it was quite hectic for the first few hours. But, I think the reason for my contentedness was that I knew I had done a good job and also knew that the building manager felt that I was capable of handling the situation.
I managed to liaise between two parties, create a safer environment, complete all the approppriate paperwork and all while unintentionally taking charge over my work colleague (not that he minded, I think he was happy to let me get on with it all!).
It wasn't anything exciting or dangerous, before you ask, just something different and the first 4-5 hours sped past which is never a bad thing at work, especially on a night shift. It was the sort of thing I was used to dealing with in my old (long-term) job. Using my brain! Working out the best way to do something. Who to ask and what to ask to get the job done as safely and efficiently as possible. It isn't often, in my current employment, that I actually have to think much, which is probably why I find it so difficult to stay awake sometimes.
Hopefully, with upcoming events (again confidential), I will be able to use my problem solving skills evenmore, thus making my job a whole lot more enjoyable and worth while.
Bring It On!!

This Flat Will Be The Death of Me!!

I worked a night shift again last night and, for a 13 hour shift it felt like it went surprisingly quickly. I still felt fairly fresh as I walked home this morning, but I did sleep for a full 8 hours when I did get into bed, so I obviously needed it.
Soon after I woke and roused from my bedroom I was told by one of my flatmates that he had found the kitchen full of gas earlier as one of the rings on the gas cooker had been left on! I immediately guessed that it was almost certainly my landlord, as he is normally pissed and uses the cooker to light his cigarettes! He is the worst flatmate for that sort of behaviour, and although he hasn't been pissed much lately he went through a long period of almost never being sober, which for a pub landlord isn't good!
So, dear readers, consider yourself lucky [ha ha] that I am still here this afternoon to "entertain" you as I could easily have been blown up in my sleep, especially as there are 2 other flatmates who smoke, and they use lighters so could have set the whole thing off without knowing!

At The Doctors

Okay, so I have just got back from the doctors and luckily he gave me 2 months prescription without me having to ask, so that is £7.10 saved (yes 'scrips have gone up yet AGAIN!). But, the doctor also kept on about me seeing a councellor again, which I really do not want to do, but I eventually gave in and agreed to one session with their resident councellor to see if she believes that I need further councelling. I hope not and I hope that it doesn't cost me either. I should be contacted some time soon to arrange the appointment, which is a nightmare in itself as I have little free time as it is with these shifts. Oh well, I guess it might help so we shall have to see.
The doctor was one that I hadn't seen before and I have been advised to ask to see the same doctor whenever I go there, so I should be seeing him again. He did ask a lot of good questions, so I hope this (he) will also help, and I hope to get off of the Sertraline relatively soon (I was on it for about 6 years before, which was far longer than I ever intended to be on it).
