... Everyone absolutely loved the performance by Divaliscious, I'm certain that you did too, and they have been inundated with bookings for every event any of the spectators could think of for the next two years at least (guys, my birthday drinks in the 2 Brewers on the 22nd June please).
After that entertainment the three stars got the Steelers to engage in a bit of speed dating, asking each other a page of questions they thought up. It got everyone speaking to people in the tour party that they may not have spoken to before, a really clever idea. Then, they pulled up some non-players (selected from the answers everyone had gotten). There were about 20 supporters on tour and they pulled 10 on stage, so I'm sure you are not surprised that I was pulled up on stage too. We were placed in 2 rows of 5 and each had to: put on lipstick, eye shadow and a wig before downing a pint of beer (I hate beer), then passing the items onto the person behind. Our team won.
We all had a few more drinks here and there but most people went home before midnight as day two of play was even more important to everyone.
Saturday's play involved the first team playing the Dallas Diablos first, which they won. Then a couple of hours later the other two teams played. The seconds played Straffe Ketten (from Belgium) who they beat 29-0. The Sparta Kings played the IGRAB Barbarians, which they lost.
After a short break the first team played again, this time against the Sydney Convicts. It wasn't a nice match to watch. I may be bias, but it looked like the Convicts were playing dirty. Jono, the youngest player on our team (though by contrast he is the one who most looks, and plays, like a pro), had pulled one of the Convicts out of a ruck and the guy didn't like it so stood there pounding on his face while Jono was laying chest down on the floor. The Convict got yellow carded, but we didn't capitalise on the superior numbers. There were several apparent high tackles (by both sides) and a few poor decisions against us (apparently, I'm not knowledgeable enough to confirm that). By the end the Steelers had lost the match and were out of the final. All the spectators quickly moved to the next pitch to watch the second team. It wasn't until about 10 minutes into that match that I noticed Jono stood back from the touchline and he was looking really upset. I went over to talk to him and asked if he was okay. He wasn't so I gave him a big hug. And surprisingly I wasn't trying it on. I really wanted him to be okay. I then noticed that he wasn't the only one. Niall, who doesn't normally communicate with me, was in tears so I gave him a hug too and then made sure I checked on all the first team guys there. It was at that point that I realised just how much it all meant to them. I knew they wanted to win, I just didn't realise they wanted it THAT MUCH. And how I didn't realise how much it also meant to me.
The second team won their match, against the Caledonian Thebans, this time 15-0.
The whole group were a bit down after the first team had been knocked out of their chance to win the Bingham Cup, but I was feeling proud and hopeful for the seconds.
We went out for a few drinks, as usual starting in View Bar, but I too tired for staying out, especially as I didn't fancy any more to drink, so I went back to my room and went on Grindr and Scruff in the hope of getting a shag. It didn't happen and then my roommate, Tim, came back early too so I went to sleep.
