Front page story in the Metro about a month ago, during the Winter Olympics but before the Commonwealth Games had started, was a story about 2 British gymnasts had to quit their sports because they couldn't afford to train any more. Daniel Cater, only 18, and Ben Brown, aged 21 both had to quit. I think the saddest thing of all was that Ben Brown was in a promotional poster for the bid for 2012 Olympics, "Leap For London." So, having helped Lord Coe and his bid for people to like him, or whatever it was, poor Ben and Daniel were abandoned. No wonder we can't maintain any good form in any of our sports for any length of time, we don't fund them unless it's furthering someone else's fame or fortune.
If I had £15,000 spare (yes that is all it would take!), I would fund one of them myself.
